Welcome to Beauty's Haven Farm and Equine Rescue

theresa.jpg (14786 bytes) ... and thank you for your interest!  We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Florida.  Please take time to browse through our website and get to know us and the horses here.

Our purpose is to help as many equine friends as possible when they are in need.  We network with other rescue organizations and individuals, and we work to educate others about horse slaughter in an effort to make it illegal -- not just in the United States but also in Canada, Mexico, and other countries.  To learn more about our mission, please follow this link to a recent article in Ocala Style magazine.

Horses that arrive at our rescue come from auctions and kill buyers; some are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them, and some are seized by authorities.  We try to help horses that are desperately in need of a safe place to go before they end up in the slaughter pipeline and are inhumanely trucked off across the borders to Canada or Mexico, where they are slaughtered for human consumption. Horses that end up at auctions often wind up in the hands of kill buyers.

Sometimes we pay to get a horse out of a desperate situation, which shouldn't be the case.  But sometimes time is of the essence in saving a horse's life.

Once a horse is here, then come the costs of rehabilitation, training, proper feed, and care.  Expenses include initial and follow-on vet exams, farrier work, vaccines, wormers, supplements, dental care, grain, feed, and other necessities, which are costly.  Some horses with special needs will live out their days here.

Please take time to look through our website to learn about us and our mission.  There are stories here that will make you cry, and some will make you smile.  Rescue work is a mental, physical, and financial rollercoaster ride; but the rewards are so great.

Horses ask for so little but give so much -- please help us to help them -- we can't do what we do without support from others.  We need assistance from caring individuals, groups, and businesses.  No amount is too small -- please give today to help the horses by visiting our Donate page.  All donations are tax-deductible.

Visitors are welcome -- but by appointment only.  Closed on Sundays and Thursdays.  If you would like to volunteer or to make an appointment, please call 352-258-9309.

Please Help us Continue to Make Miracles Happen

In August 2009 we got a call about a baby that needed help -- he wasn't very far from the rescue.  When we went over to check him out, I looked into the stall, and right then I knew there was no leaving this baby behind.  He looked so small and alone, huddled in a corner.  He had what appeared to be cataracts in both eyes.  He had diarrhea.  He was thin, wormy, and had places where he was missing his coat.  His backend was weak, and he was wearing unhealthy baby fur.

I hugged him and started scratching his neck and started humming to him.  He swayed to the left, to the right, to the left, back and forth to the scratches and humming.  I love to listen to Ray Charles; and this little boy, swaying back and forth to the humming, reminded me of him -- the name Baby Ray came to me.  So, meet Baby Ray.

The pictures you are viewing below tell a pictorial story of Baby Ray's first few weeks at our rescue.  To read about Baby Ray's reunion with his mom, healing from malabsorbtion syndrome and the effects of starvation and neglect, undergoing surgery to repair his sight, and the rest of his story, please visit his diary page by clicking here!
